Village Plan

Updating the Village Plan

Below you will find a copy of the 2005 North Waltham Village Plan.

This Village Plan is now being reviewed in order to keep the information contained within it current. The Village plan documents our views for the future of North Waltham with input obtained from everyone in North Waltham and it addresses planning, housing, open spaces, village facilities, traffic, transport, lifestyle, leisure, safety, etc. The Village Plan may help with obtaining grants for projects requested within the Village Plan, and is seen as a key document by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The Village Plan review is being organised by a group of volunteers from the village, and is not run by the Parish Council.

The members of the Steering Group who are currently undertaking this review are listed below. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Village Plan please get in touch, either by e-mail or phone, with any of the Steering Group.

Village Plan 2005 Feedback Meetings
The last meeting following the 2005 plan was held on the 3rd November 2006 and some 50 residents braved the foul weather to attend!  The aim of the meeting was to establish coordinators for projects that needed to be kicked off.  Updates from the meeting are listed below.
 Car Share/Volunteer Drivers (Action Cars)
 Clubs and Activities
 Community Composting
 Footpaths
 Neighbourhood Watch
 Offices
 Old Forge
 Take Away Deliveries
 Youth Club
 Other Items Discussed

Car Share/Volunteer Drivers (Action Cars)

Three people put their names forward to try and get a community car scheme off the ground.

If you would like to add your support or just input information into this scheme then please contact Adam Liddiard, Steve Green or Pat Alveryone, or any member of the Village Plan Steering Group.

Julie Wild will be in contact with this sub group to provide information on Action Cars gained to-date.  For example, HCC provide public liability insurance to help run the scheme in Overton.  In addition, we are aware that the WI and the Church may have information on schemes that could be pulled together.

Clubs and Activities

Six people were interested in taking part in a club or an activity.

Emma Couzens from Dummer will be running, during term time, yoga classes in North Waltham's school hall.  These will commence in the New Year.  The classes have been provisionally set to start on Wednesday 11th January.  Please contact Emma on 396838 if you would also like to attend (the five names added to the list for yoga during the meeting have been sent to Emma Couzens, who will contact these individuals directly).

We have a contact name in BTEC if anyone would be interested in getting any other classes off the ground.  Please contact Adele Stevenson on 01256 398487 if you would be willing to investigate or coordinate any other clubs or activities.

Community Composting

This was the topic that gained the most interest at the meeting.  We have 7 names down to set up a sub group, with Peter Osmond offering to act as the coordinator to start the ball rolling.  Robert Bull and Julie Wild will be in contact with Peter to hand over the information gained to date.  Peter will then be in touch with the other 6 names on the list to see if we can set up a scheme in North Waltham.

Footpaths

Again, footpaths had a large interest, as would be expected.  Eight people were interested in joining a sub group on footpaths with Jan Petersen offering to act as a coordinator.

Robert Bull will be in contact with Jan to pass on his knowledge and information gained to-date.

Neighbourhood Watch

Barley View is the only area within North Waltham that currently does not have a neighbourhood watch coordinator.  We were therefore delighted that two volunteers came forward, Sarah Afentakis and Tracie Truman.

During the meeting several people asked who their local co-ordinator was; Brian Wall and PC Chris Brooks are going to meet in the new year to review the current scheme and possibly circulate all the contact names.  Watch this space!

Offices

There was no interest shown on this subject.  Please contact Chris Brummell if this topic interests you.

Old Forge

The Steering Group wanted to ensure that everyone was up to date on the recent information regarding the old forge:

  • HCC has offered this building to the Parish Council for the village
  • HCC will commit to completing £8,000 of repairs within the sale
  • The building will need an additional £15,000 plus to fix it and return it to a standard that is acceptable

The main question put to the attendees of the meeting was how would we raise this kind of money, if it was agreed that the Parish Council would take this building on?  No suggestions were put forward on the night but people did say they would think about this topic.  Any ideas should be put to the Parish Council or the Steering Group.

Take Away Deliveries

We currently have the following restaurants that will delivery takeaways to North Waltham:

  • Herbies Pizza in Brighton Hill, 01256 810330
  • Reemin's Indian Take Away, 01256 328822/352565 (£4 charge may be less if big order)

Do you know of any more?  Please send details to the Parish Magazine so other people can use these services.

Youth Club

We received several great suggestions concerning the youth club.  Everyone seems to want the youth club back but we were lacking a coordinator to get this off the ground.  Adam Liddiard kindly volunteered to try and get this well attended club back on the straight and narrow!  PC Chris Brooks will be in contact with Adam to hand over his valuable information!

The suggestions we received were:

  • Set up a rota for all the parents, maybe one week on three weeks off
  • Pay someone to run the club, purchasing tuck or just do the rota for
    parents
  • We need more guidance around the age range of the children that should
attend the youth club. Who does it appeal to?
  • We should write to all the children that used to attend asking them to
put their parents names forward and contact details!

Gary Whiteside will consider being treasurer if we manage to start up the club again.  We currently have all the equipment need for the Youth Club to start up again and ££'s in the bank - it is such a shame it is just sitting there.  Please give Adam your full support.  Contact him or a Village Plan Steering Group member and add your name to the list for support, however small or
large.

Other Items Discussed

  1. Turning right into Maidenthorne Lane
Someone mentioned that they were interested in a filter lane being installed on the A30 at the junction with Maidenthorne Lane.  Everyone was advised on the evening, that the new junction layouts for Maidenthorne Lane, Popham Lane and Fox Lane have been reviewed by BDBC and were currently with the Parish Council to feedback their comments on the new suggestions.
  2. Footpath around Cuckoo Meadow
This topic was discussed in some detail and the feedback was positive and included comments from the Village Plan, School and Village Trust.  It was refreshing to have all the bodies in the same room to be able to discuss this point.  The Village Trust and School are investigating the cost of materials and whether grants are available to see if some ideas can be moved forward.  A representative from the School Travel Plan brought along a map of the village to show where the main group of children reside and the
impact it has on them getting to school.  It was stated that the Village Trust meet on the first Tuesday of every month and if anyone wanted to be involved in discussing this topic, ALL are welcome to attend.  The school will inform the Village Trust of the information gathered for more discussions to take place in the future.
