Neighbourhood Watch Scheme
Each scheme has its own co-ordinator, who in turn comes under the Group Co-ordinator. The basic principle allows for close liaison between the schemes and the Police and the free flow of information in both directions. In this way each scheme member keeps an eye out for anything suspicious which can be reported quickly to their co-ordinator or directly to the police. This information can then be passed on to each scheme and the information disseminated to as many members as possible. In addition, information from the police can be passed in the same manner. Community involvement is vital to the police in the fight against crime. If you see anything suspicious then report it at the time. For more information contact: The Neighbourhood Watch Schemes will continue to receive the full support of the Police. Neighbourhood Watch - Latest NewsletterTo read the latest newsletter visit www.neighbourhoodwatch.net Neighbourhood Watch - Update from PC Barbara BradleyPolice Report for 19/07/11 The following incidents/crimes of note occurred in North Waltham village between 01/06/11 to 18/07/11:- Suspicious Activity – On the1st of June a suspicious male was seen to be loitering in the footpath at the far end of Ramsholt Close that leads to Mary Lane. He had a large wad of cash in his hand, it was mentioned that he could possibly have been dealing in drugs. On the 2nd of July a suspicious female was reported to be wandering around the area of the Wheatsheaf Garage, when challenged she said she was looking for scrap metal. Scrap metal is in high demand at the moment which is resulting in the theft of unusual items such as drain covers, gates, high value garden statues etc. If you see anything untoward which makes you look twice, it is probably best to report the matter to police immediately on 0845 045 45 45, it is better to get it checked out and it comes to nothing than to turn a blind eye to what may result in a theft occurring. Unfortunately the above incidents were not reported straight away and as such the persons had left prior to police arrival. Theft – On the 2nd of July it was reported that two bags of horse feed were stolen from a stable in Popham Lane. Prior to this incident it had been noticed that persons were entering the stable and moving things around and on one occasion moved the horse from one field to another. Again if you see anything untoward please report it as above. Criminal Damage – I’m relieved to report that the spate of damage that was prevalent throughout the village in the spring has at last ceased. There were no witnesses or suspects to any of the incidents although the finger was pointing at young persons in the village. I would like to say that the young people of North Waltham are no different to young people of other generations and in fact, in comparison to other areas, they are very pleasant and respectful to speak to, it is unfair to make accusations without the evidence to support the claim. Theft from Churches – In the past few weeks there has been thefts from St Thomas Church in Worting, St Leonard’s Church in Oakley, St Thomas’s in Wootton Hill and St Mary’s in Kingsclere, Silverware and cash were stolen. Sadly all of the rural churches are at risk at the moment so advice has been given to secure items of value elsewhere for the time being. Please be vigilant particularly if you are returning home late at night or in the early hours and report anything you deem to be suspicious without delay. PCSO Rowell – As you may already be aware, PCSO Melissa Rowell has left the beat to start a new role as a Countrywatch Officer working out of Alresford. Melissa was involved in a lot of community work, she was invited to; and attended regularly, coffee mornings, schools to assist with reading lessons and days out, fetes, clubs and other community groups. Melissa was also responsible for recruitment of Neighbourhood Watch in other villages. I am not aware of any plans to replace Melissa at this time or in the near future and it is unlikely I will be able to fulfil her role as well as my own, however if there is a request for that kind of presence then I can always request the assistance of a PCSO from another beat. Hampshire Constabulary is currently undergoing a restructure with many changes having already been made and others afoot. Our response vehicles now have the benefit of equipment that will prevent them from having to be office bound for large parts of their shift and as a result you should start to see them parked up in order to work in the car in areas where there is a need. I too have benefitted with the issue of a Blackberry, once this has been updated with all of the necessary data, I will be able to spend less time in the office and more time out and about on the beat. My new mobile number is 07554 775610. – Please do not use this number to report crime, it is important to report it at the time so an officer can attend to secure and preserve evidence. The mobile will not be answered when I am off duty or on leave and therefore I have arranged for all calls when not answered to divert to the control room number 0845 045 45 45. A message can be taken which will be sent to me via email or you can send me an email – barbara.bradley@hampshire.pnn.police.uk PC 292 BRADLEY
